Background of the 38th Parallel

UN decided in connection with the Korean War 1950 to support South Korea and USA received the task to build UNC (United Nations Command) with the right to carry UN-flag in operations to retrieve peace and security in the area.

Since 1953 a Swedish military delegation is stationed in the center of the demilitarized zone (DMZ). NNSC (Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission) is a part of the mechanism regulating the relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK, North Korea) and the Republic of Korea (ROK, South Korea). Today NNSC exists of officers from Sweden, Switzerland and Poland (partly).
